“Texas Jukebox Radio” Podcast Coming Soon.

Johnny K. the ‘Record Ranger’ here.

For the last few years I’ve been hosting an online radio program, called “Record Ranger Radio” on ElectroMagnetic Radio every Tuesday evening. It’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve worked diligently to showcase lost and nearly forgotten Texas country, blues, and rock music, along with a bunch of other great music with Texas flavor and influence. It’s been a great excuse for me to spin and share some of the TJP collection with y’all for a couple of hours, not to mention, escape from the clutches of reality for a while. What I (feel like I) haven’t been doing a great job of with the radio show is dedicating more episodes to more specific Texas artists and labels like I’d want. It’s a lot of work to research and pull together two hours-worth of new music every week, and keep it interesting enough not to feel stagnant or cookie-cutter from episode to episode. With that said, I’m planning and working on producing a new podcast that focuses more on those aforementioned Texas artists and labels as a supplement to the radio show. For starters, each episode will have a target time of around 15-20 minutes featuring a mix of music, commentary, and interesting facts. I know most people probably don’t care about the academic aspects of music history, but it’ll be a component that builds upon the TJP’s mission of ‘saving Texas music one record at a time.’

“Texas Jukebox Radio” is a working title, for the moment. Perhaps there is a better title to be had once I’m ready to launch. What I’m not 100% certain, yet, is the frequency of which episodes will be posted. (Depending on day job and other life duties, I may realistically shoot for a new episode once a month. The podcast will probably be a bit more polished and produced vs. the live ‘anything goes’ radio show broadcast, but I’ll have more details soon.) With the podcast launching soon, you may see ‘Record Ranger Radio’ archive disappear from the website for a bit. However, recordings of each episode will be available to those who request them.

The TJP is a passion project. I don’t always get to dedicate the time and resources to this endeavor like I want, but I try my best to do the work for which it demands, when I can. Like all passions, you have to step away every now and then to come back fresh. I’m currently working on refreshing ‘this and that’ to keep the TJP moving forward, and the podcast is part of that. In addition to the podcast, there are other goodies I’m cooking up. Hopefully, y’all will stick around and see what happens.

The “Texas Jukebox Radio” podcast is aiming for a late Summer/early Fall 2026 launch, so please stay tuned.
